comparing Irish music and Italian music

History of Italian music

Italian music dates back to around early Christianity. Music in Italy started off as chanting in churches. Chat traditions from the north of Italy started to replace traditional chanting that had been there since early Christianity, this lead to a new type of music. Nothing much happened in terms of music until the Renaissance. In the Renaissance time period, madrigals (part of a song with several voices) were written for other ranges of voices and polyphonic music (music with many melodies) was banned, by the church, composers began to publish new music in the Renaissance style of music. In the time between 17th century and the 18th century instruments were changed for example: the piano was extended and more instruments could now take part in songs. Also opera houses (see photo)  were built in Naples. In the 19th century Opera music was still very popular in Italy and in comparison to other countries the music didn't really change all that much. It took a long time for popular music to come to Italy, pop music was brought about in Italy due to the TV which showed Italian people foreign music.

Comparing Irish music and Italian music

Comparing Irish music and Italian music is rather interesting because Italian music has a lot of opera music in comparison to Irish music. Opera music generally has only 1 person singing where as traditional Irish music has no one singing and generally has instruments playing in the background. They are both 2 very different forms of music. While you can go and watch Opera music there are few similarities between Irish and Italian music.

Thank you for reading my blog.

Comparing Irish music and American music.

Music in the states consists of folk, popular, classical and a little bit of Jazz. In comparison to Irish music, Irish music consists of  mostly that as well except without the Jazz and more Irish dancing. As in previous blogs I have generally mentioned some type of native dance in, well in America history at least the music part of it there isn't really a native dance which is very popular in America. Irish dancing uses very similar instruments from a dance in America (eg country western dance). To compare the instruments that are used in country western dances some instruments used are banjos, drums, fiddle and guitar. The instruments that I listed previously are mainly used in Irish dancing especially the fiddle. While there are some similarities there are also some differences, for example the music genre hip hop uses legs, hands and uses a lot twisting ones body which you won't find in Irish dancing at all,

Origin of American popular music

American pop music began to become known internationally around the 19th and 20th century with styles of music like  R&B, jazz and rock. American music has grown in international popularity due to music stations like BBC radio which broadcast american musicians world wide, I have also said that american pop music is known throughout the world. The first types of music genres to become popular were Jazz and blues, these would be the main foundation of pop music. Jump forward to the 2000s pop music in America was mainly dominated by R&B. Some of the music in America during the 2000s was also influenced by European music .

The popularity of Rock n roll music spread from America helped in no small way by artists like Bill Hailey and the king of them all Elvis Presley who by his deep soul voice and good looks spawned a following which led to the popularization of rock n roll..

I have learned about the history of American pop music and I have done the comparisons between Irish music and American music and listed its Similarities and differences and give a little bit of history on Elvis Presley.

Thank you fro reading this blog. ;)

Comparing Spanish music and Irish music.

In this post I will be looking at the differences between Irish music and Spanish music.

Origins of pop music in Spain

In Spain music varies from place to place in this I will be mainly focusing on Madrid. In Madrid you will many variations of music but the main music in Madrid from what I could find was Salamanca which is serenade played with guitars by students. In terms of pop music, pop music became popular in Spain in the 1980s they called this period in Spain "La Movida Madrileña".

Comparisons between Spanish and Irish music and info on Spanish music

To compare this to Irish music, Spain and Ireland use very different instruments for example a instrument that is commonly used  in Spain that you wouldn't find in Ireland would be castanets (see photo to left) here is a picture of what they look like, These are usually used in Flamenco dancing native to Spain,

Just like how our Irish Dancing is native to Ireland. In Spain, Flamenco dancing is the most thought of when it comes to Spanish dancing. The outfits worn by Spanish dancers in flamenco dancing usually consist of a red and black dress for woman (see photo below left) and for male who are Flamenco dancing there outfit consists of a large hat, a waistcoat and long trousers.   A instrument which is used practically everywhere in from Spain to Ireland is the guitar this simple instrument is used in a variety of songs in Spain and Ireland some of these songs include Bouree in E minor by J.S Bach (Spanish) and an Irish song that features a song.

I have learned about the differences between Spanish music and Irish music. I have also learned about the origin of popular music when it was introduced in Spain.

Music in India and how to differs from Irish

Hello, in this post I will be talking about instruments and music that is in India and how it differs from Irish music and instruments and some of its dances.

India has many instruments which you wouldn't find in Ireland. Some of these include the mandolin, this instrument comes from central India. This is a instrument has been adopted by many Irish bands in the west of Ireland such as the Bothy band Donal Lunny played it in the band. A instrument which can't be found in Ireland but can be found in India is a sitar, this instrument was invented around the 1800s in India.  Another difference from Ireland and Inida is while we look at film from Hollywood the Indian people look at films from Bollywood these films generally include a lot of traditional Indian dancing, which differs from Irish dancing in that they use there hands a lot when dancing while Irish dancing uses feet a lot.

pop music in India

In India pop music came about in the 1970s. Pop music in India isn't just mainly pop it is a  amalgamation of genres some of these being: folk and classical. Where as in Ireland pop music is mainly just music from America. India Rock has become very popular over the last couple of years with Stations like the BBC and the voice of America helping to bring western songs to India. Due to this and western pop stars collaborating with Indian pop star this created a new type of rock called raga rock. It is thanks to western music that Indian music has become more popular.

I have learned that there are differences / similarities between Irish music and Indian music and I have also thought you  a little background info on Indian music. Thank you for reading.

This blog will be on the geography of music.

Music can be very different depending on what part of the world you are in for example in a place like Ireland you can get music like  pop, traditional music. Even the instruments that people use for example you may see people playing the Bohrán in Ireland where as you may see someone playing the didgeridoo in Australia. I will be looking at different countries and seeing how its music and instruments differ from other counties.
